Frequently Asked Questions

If your question is not answered below, please feel free to reach out to me directly!

What can I expect from an initial therapy session?

The first session is called an "intake session." This session is more structured than typical therapy sessions, because I will want to know more about what's bringing you to therapy and will want to learn about your history and present functioning (for example, how are you sleeping? what are you worried about?). In following sessions, therapy will be collaborative and more free-flowing. With my help, you will get ownership of the work we do together.

Do you take insurance?

I am in network with UMR Insurance for Mount Sinai Employees & their dependents.

I am out of network for other insurance plans. I can help you to submit a "superbill" to get reimbursement for sessions, if you have out-of-network insurance benefits. Often people can get 30-80% of the session fee covered through these benefits.

We will discuss the fee in the initial consultation call. I do hold a limited number of low fee / sliding scale spots.

How do I know if I have out of network benefits?

I suggest calling your insurance and asking the following questions:

· Do I have out-of-network benefits for mental health services?

· What is my deductible and has it been met?

· How many sessions per year does my health insurance cover?

· What is the coverage amount per therapy session?

· Once my deductible is met, what is the rate of reimbursement? They will tell you it is a percentage of an "allowed amount." Let them know you would see a psychologist (PsyD) in zip code 10003 and the CPT code is 90837.

How do I know that now is the time to start therapy?

I believe that if you're feeling curious enough to begin a journey toward change and healing, then you are in a great place to start. The early work of therapy involves us getting to know each other and collaborating to determine what would be most helpful to you in our process, so you do not have to have that figured out before you start.
